Gratuity Pay under New Pension System

Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity is paid to Central Government employees under New PensionSystem (NPS) as it is paid under the old pension scheme. The monthly annuity under the New Pension System (NPS) is only a replacement of pension on retirement and family pension of death after retirement. The benefits of Death cum Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) and pension/family pension have been provisionally allowed, vide the Office Memorandum of Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare No. 38/41/06-P & PW(A) dated 5.5.2009 in respect of Central Government servants covered under NPS in cases where a Government Servant is retired on invalidation/disability and in the case of death of a Government servant in service on the same rates as are applicable under the old pension scheme Central Civil Service (Pension) Rules, 1972. The retirement gratuity is payable to the retiring Government servant. A minimum of 5 years’ qualifying service and eligibility to receive service gratuity/pension is essential to get this one time lump sum benefit. Retirement gratuity is calculated @ 1/4th of a month’s Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance drawn before retirement for each completed six monthly period of qualifying service. The maximum retirement gratuity payable is 16½ times the Basic Pay, subject to a maximum of Rs. 10 lakh. If the Government Servant dies while in service, the death gratuity shall be paid to his family at rates furnished in the table below:

This was stated by Minister of State for Finance, Shri Namo Narain Meena, in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

Commemorative postage stamp released to mark centenary of Mumbai GPO

India Post today marked the centenary of Mumbai GPO building, wwiththe release of Commemorative Postage Stamp by Ms P. Gopinath, Secretary (Posts) and Chairperson, Postal Services Board, Government of India, at a function held in a precincts of the heritage building.   

As of the celebration, India Post has also orgnaised a philatelic exhibition on Mumbai at ground floor of the GPO.   

GPO, through the ages 

General Post Office, Mumbai was established in the year 1794 by the then Postmaster General for Bombay Presidency, Charles Elphinstone. Strategically located near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminus and the Sea Port to allow quick transfer of mail from overseas and inland, this office has been serving the common man for over 200 years.   

MoneyGram Renews INDIAPOST Agreement

MoneyGram (MGI), a leading global money transfer company, today announced it successfully renewed its agreement with India Post, the largest postal network in the world.

MoneyGram launched the service with India Post in September 2011 at 100 India Post locations.  Since then, that number has grown to include 2,500 India Post locations offering MoneyGram's money transfer service.

The Department of Posts, on Tuesday, opened a new post office on the premises of Karikkakom Sree Chamundeswari Devi temple.

Sobha Koshy, Chief Postmaster General, Kerala Circle, inaugurated the facility in the presence of Director of Postal Services (Headquarters) A. Govindarajan and Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Thiruvananthapuram (North) Division A. Ramadevi.

Deputy Superintendent of Post Offices (North) Division V. Balakrishnan Nair, temple trust president Muraleedharan Nair, and secretary Anil Kumar were present.

Govt to launch website for e-postal order by March

A website to help Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to pay the fee for filing RTI applications through e-postalorder is all set to be launched by this month end.

The website will have an option for NRIs to pay the fee of Rs 10 via credit or debit cards to the government while exercising their Right to Information, official sources said.

The Department of Personnel and Training, which act as a nodal agency for the implementation of the RTI Act, has worked out all the modalities along with the Department of Posts for the purpose, they said. The facility, which is likely to be made online by this month end, will also be extended for citizens living across the country, the sources said.

The DoPT has already floated a tender for an RTI call centre and website project which will help an applicant to file applications online under the transparency law and receive the response.

Indias First All Women Post Office Opened in Delhi on 08/March/2013

the central government on Friday started an all women post office here on the occasion of the International Women`s Day.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal inaugurated the post office at Shastri Bhawan - the hub of central government offices -- in central Delhi.

The post office has three counters -- two offer multi-purpose services like booking of speed post, registration, sale of IPOs, booking of money orders while one counter is for sale of stamps.

"All these counters will now be manned by women employees only. The working hours will be from 9.30 am.- 5.30 pm.," said an official statement by the ministry.

Schedue for Inspector Posts Induction Training.

Directorate vide letter No. 1-39/2009-Trg. dated 18.02.2013 has issued the following schedule to all PTCs for imparting Induction Training to the 189 departmental Inspector Posts candidates declared successful in the IP Examination held on 13th and 14th October 2012. Besides, the backlog of 2011 will also be covered. The Induction Training will be commenced in multiple batches at PTCs.

            With reference to letter No. JCA 2013 dated 22^nd January, 2013 from Postal Joint Council of Action stating that all the Postal/RMS/MMS/Administrative and Postal Accounts Employees and all the Gramin Dak Sevaks will go on two days strike on 20^th & 21^st Feb, 2013 in support of Charter of Demands enclosed with the letter referred to above. Part-I of The Charter of Demands relates to the entire Government of India and perhaps will be examined by Department of Personnel and Training. Part-II of the Charter of Demands relating to the Department of Posts is being examined by us. The progress in respect of these demands will be intimated to you shortly.

Mobile money order service soon in state

RANCHI: Jharkhand neither qualifies as a state, which generates maximum money orders, nor as one that receives too many money orders like Punjab and Bihar, which have long earned the distinction of doing so. This could well have been the reason behind the delay in the launch of the mobile money order service (MMOS) that was launched in Bihar and Punjab much earlier in May 2011.

Jharkhand office of India Post is gearing up for the modern facility that is expected to make money transactions easier for those who do not have an account in a bank or post office.

"A requisition is pending with the office of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for registration of SIM card to be used in this service. BSNL is acting as a partner in the project. We expect the service to be launched for the customers in Jharkhand within a month," said an officer of the business development section in Ranchi.

The direct cash transfer scheme (DCT) is going to be launched through post offices in Chittoor district. The seeding of the accounts of beneficiaries with Aadhaar numbers and biometrics is being completed and it would be launched by February 9, Chief Postmaster General AP Circle Karuna Pillai said.

Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister of State for Information Technology and Communication Killi Kripa Rani, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and other Ministers and dignitaries are expected to attend the launch, she said speaking on the sidelines of the AP Postal Regional Cultural Selection Trials 2013 here on Saturday.

Further, the Department of Posts is launching its core banking service in Srikakulam district and Parvathipuram division this month, she said. With the linking of the postal savings bank accounts the users would be able to transact their accounts in any post office in the region for now and later it would be expanded to cover all the post offices. These accounts also would be seeded with the Aadhaar and biometric details to enable their unique identification and enable them to be used for the Centre’s DCT scheme.

Accepting the fact that there were delays in the delivery of Aadhaar cards to individuals she said that postmen were heavily burdened. In some cases the postmen have 8,000 articles to deliver. This would cause a delay in their delivery. In Hyderabad, the postmen have been delivering the Aadhaar cards on Sundays and holidays also, she said and added that the Department was also recruiting staff apart from provide postmen with two-wheelers to increase the efficiency in the last mile delivery, she added.

The Department will sett up two automatic mail sorting machines at its complex near the Hyderabad airport. One system would cater to the regular letters and the other to sort the parcels. The letter sorting machine would be able to handle 35,000 letters per hour and the other would be able to sort 25,000 parcels per hour.

8% DA HIKE FOR CENTRAL GOVT STAFF

This decision is likely to bring some relief to nearly 50 lakh central government employees trying to cope up with spiraling inflation and price hike.

Holiday for MILAD-UN-NABI has been changed in Kerala Circle

Closed holiday for MILAD-UN-NABI or ID-E-MILAD(Birthday of Prophet Mohammed) in Kerala Circle will be on 24 January 2013.

Earlier it was declared on 25.01.2013,now it has been changed from 25 January to 24th January as the Kerala Government changed the holiday to 24.01.2013.

WEB PORTAL FOR PROJECT ARROW

A Web Portal for Project Arrow has been developed so that objectives and deliverables of the project are widely disseminated in the public domain and a proper channel is put in place for receiving feedback from stakeholders i.e. post office customers and the staff members.  This interactive interface will facilitate in getting feedback and suggestions from customers across the country which will be vital inputs for further improving both the core operations and the ‘Look and Feel’ of Project Arrow Post Offices.
