How about an ATM card similar to a debit card/ATM card issued by a bank for postal account? Sounds different right?

Yes, the Department of Posts, in an effort to provide enhanced solutions to its customers is all set to launch the first Automated teller Machine (ATM) in Bangalore GPO premises shortly, through a core banking solution.

Smart things to know: Reviving a PPF account

1) If you have a Public Provident Fund (PPF) account, which you had forgotten about and is dormant, you can revive it by paying the pending subscriptions and penalties.


2) To keep a PPF account active, you need to deposit at least Rs 500 every year. If you fail to do so, a penalty of Rs 50 per year is levied. To reactivate the account, you have to pay the amount due till the date of reactivation.

3) Since the PPF account would have been declared 'inactive' by the bank, reactivating it will require a personal visit and verification by the bank.

4) If your PPF account has already matured, it will not earn any interest from the date of maturity. You cannot reactivate such an account, but will have to pay the penalty to claim the proceeds.

Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai, who demits office Wednesday, will be remembered for turning the statutory body into a pugnacious watchdog of good governance and administrative integrity at a time when India is experiencing the need for greater transparency and a rebalancing of power that has tilted over the years towards the executive. 

The President of India has appointed Shri Shashi Kant Sharma, IAS, as the Comptroller & Auditor General of India, in terms of Article 148 (1) of the Constitution of India. Shri Sharma is presently holding the post of Defence Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. He will be taking over the charge of the Comptroller & Auditor General of India from 23rd May, 2013.

Point of Sale International EMS Tariff Revision Patch

The tariff fixed vide Department letter No. 43-1/08-DA dated 3.1.2011 for International EMS has been revised. The new tariff will be effective from 1.5.2013. Though the provision for configuring the tariff is available in Point of sale, inorder to ease the work of configuration and to incorporate some changes in the structure of countries the utility is being provided.

Run the InternationalEMSTariffRevision_2013.exe in the machine where Point Of Sale Server component is installed. Enter the path of PointOfSale Server component and the SQL server name and click on Update to update the new International EMS tariff rates.

Gratuity Pay under New Pension System

Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity is paid to Central Government employees under New PensionSystem (NPS) as it is paid under the old pension scheme. The monthly annuity under the New Pension System (NPS) is only a replacement of pension on retirement and family pension of death after retirement. The benefits of Death cum Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) and pension/family pension have been provisionally allowed, vide the Office Memorandum of Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare No. 38/41/06-P & PW(A) dated 5.5.2009 in respect of Central Government servants covered under NPS in cases where a Government Servant is retired on invalidation/disability and in the case of death of a Government servant in service on the same rates as are applicable under the old pension scheme Central Civil Service (Pension) Rules, 1972. The retirement gratuity is payable to the retiring Government servant. A minimum of 5 years’ qualifying service and eligibility to receive service gratuity/pension is essential to get this one time lump sum benefit. Retirement gratuity is calculated @ 1/4th of a month’s Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance drawn before retirement for each completed six monthly period of qualifying service. The maximum retirement gratuity payable is 16½ times the Basic Pay, subject to a maximum of Rs. 10 lakh. If the Government Servant dies while in service, the death gratuity shall be paid to his family at rates furnished in the table below:

Maximum amount of Death Gratuity admissible is Rs, 10 lakh with effect from 1.1.2006. 

This was stated by Minister of State for Finance, Shri Namo Narain Meena, in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

Negative List Updation Patch - Updated upto 31/03/2013

This patch file updates the negative list available in Sanchay Post software. To confirm updation, use the "Database Discrepancies >> NSC >> Details of Negative List Updation" option available in DBAnalyzer software.

The file 'NL_20130331.exe' should be copied to DBAnalyzer folder and executed after completion of day's transactions. This will update the negative list upto 31/03/2013  in Sanchay Post.

In addition to Negative List, updations relating to PINCODE details are also done in the database. Hence, execution of this patch will take longer than the usual updation time. System Administrators should ensure that the server is not switched off till successful execution of the patch.
